What is there to do in downtown Denver no matter the season?

What I love about Denver is people are always outside doing something. There are tons of great parks or trails. City Park hosts free summer concerts and various outdoor activities (boathouse is great, paddle boats). Just north of the downtown skyline is a skatepark and near that is another general park where a lot of people run and walk the trails from that area to downtown. I use to play in a kickball league out there and after we would merely walk to our fav downtown bar for some post ball fun!

Denver's feel is very contemporary. Just walking around is an activity in itself. Some downtown landmarks to visit are the 16th street mall, Denver Botanic Gardens, Denver Art Museum, Union Station, Denver Musuem of Natural Science, Denver Zoo, Four Mile House, Opera House, Kirland Museum of Fine and Decorative Arts, Molly Brown House, RED ROCKS (!!!must go!!!), Eltich Gardens Amusement Park, etc etc etc!

Sports is pretty big in Denver. The Invesco Field and Mile High Stadium (Denver Broncos), Coors Field (Colorado Rockies, Pepsi Center (Colorado Avalanche, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Mammoth, Colorado Crush), Dick's Sporting Goods (Colorado Rapids). Denver also has some of the best bars, club, music venues. If you are young or even if your not; it's a great place for nightlife.

How far away is Denver from some of the Rockies hot ski resorts?

Denver is really the only place you can fly into if you want to ski the Rockies. Well international, big airport at least. We have a random family trip to Keystone which is about an hour and a half (depending on traffic, weather, route, etc) from Denver. If you are coming directly from the airport, tack on another 30-45 minutes. Keystone is one of my favorite places in the world. It's small but you aren't there for the city lifestyle; it's all about nature and outdoor activities.

Breckenridge, safe to say, is one of the most popular ski destinations in Colorado. It is about 2 hours away from Denver and maybe 2hr 20 minutes from the airport. Traffic and conditions always apply though because there is only one way to get anywhere from Denver to the mountains and that's I-70. So plan on checking that highway no matter where you go. They are pretty good about conditions since it is the only major highway but at the same time the incline/decline is very steep at times because you are literally driving up and through a mountain. It's funny but a little scary when you see these manmade hills on the side of the road with truck signs on them. This is for semi trucks to exit onto and roll up when their speed in out of control.

About 30 minutes past Breckenridge on 70 is Vail which is another hot spot (So figure 2/2.5 hours from Denver/airport). Off the beaten path is Aspen which is about 4.5 hours away from Denver. You travel on a skinnier highway thats carved out of the terrain of the mountains to get there but the scenery is worth it. You follow a river for the later half of the stretch. Aspen is more ritzy but definitely a destination to visit of the opportunity presents itself. It's a small town surrounded my the beautiful Rockies.

What is Denver climate like since it rests at the foothills of the Rockies?

I love Denver's weather. Most people assume its always freezing but I wouldn't trade the weather here for anything. There is almost no humidity because of the altitude and there is a constant fresh breeze from the mountains that in spring to fall it seems perfect all the time. Granted it can get cold and really cold but that's true anywhere. Snow is always a bigger factor too but at the same time it can snow 4 inches in the morning, be sunny by noon, melt by 2 and be 80 by 4.

I agree, Denver is a 4 seasons in one day kind of town but it's beautiful. The air always feels great and you actually feel like uour getting fresh air. Weather can be very unpredictable though. There can be a snowfall downpour in June. I remember going up to Keystone a couple summers ago and was laying out one day and throwing snowballs the next. If you don't like the possibility of unpredictable weather, then you wouldn't like Denver. I like the randomness; it never gets boring.
