I know Gibson is a huge provider/favorite in guitars but don't they also have other brands under them besides just Gibson guitars?
-
rmckown
Yes, the most popular branch of Gibson is Epiphone. These are great guitars!

Signature Les Pauls are my absolute favorite and are built by Gibson/Epiphone. Kramer is also a Gibson name. Gibson currently has 18 additional name brands. They are like the General Motors of guitars. GM is Chevy, Cadillac, Buick, Pontiac, Saturn, Hummer, Saab, etc. etc. etc. all in one therefore a bunch of brands in one name.

How often should you replace guitar strings and how do you replace them?
-
Ballerz
I went in a guitar shop to buy new strinds and was asking what the best brand was to use and they eventually asked me when the last time I replaced my strings was and I said never (Ive had the guitar for about 6 years) and their faces literally hit the floor. They told me that if you are a moderate player then replacing your strings every 3-6 months is good. Thats for an acoustic, I dont know about any electric (same old strings on that too)

Musicians change their strings after every gig. It depends on how much you play and your personal taste. Acoustic is easy to replace. Just place and wind up. Electric is a little harder. I take mine to a guitar shop when I want new strings and have them do it. It requires opening up the belly of the guitar and I dont trust myself.

If it is a day to day playing basis then I would change at least every 2 weeks. If it is just for fun every now and again, changing strings a minimum of every couple months is a very good idea. There are instructions online of how to replace strings depending on your type of guitar.

What's the best kind of guitar to learn on?
-
sharpey
Electric guitars are easier to learn on because the strings are less demanding and easier to press.

I would have to play devils advocate to that answer?I learned on acoustic and loved it because once I got that then all other guitars seem easier. You have to have more patients though to learn on an acoustic because the strings are heavier and harder to press/control. Your fingers will take a beating but once the hard forms and you can fluidly move them then its great.

Really depends on what type of music you want to play. Finger picking is easier to learn on a acoustic but power chords are easier to learn on an electric.

How do I tune a guitar?
-
BenWolf
Either by sound (buy a tuning harmonica) or by electronic (buy a guitar tuner)
-
IIjoeyII
The best and most accurate way is to buy a tuner. You can either put it up to your guitar and let it go on sound or plug it into any electric based guitar to get 100% quality tune.

I have an effects peddle and there is a tuner feature included in that. So I killed 2 birds with 1 stone. I agree that electronic is best. The tuning harmonicas are funny more than effective.
