I am computer illerate, but I know I want to upgrade my dell po, and I want a laptop. I want to be able to download most games and music, and dvd's I now have a dell desk top with a cd burner. Not the newest on the block. What is the best to purchase (yet most reasonable) computer to do all of this? I also want a laptop that I can dothe same/which is the most reasonable and the best for what I want todo. As you can tell, I am computer illiterate and don't want to get ripped off/ best brand for the money. I have a dell pc now, is it worth upgrading?

Mobility is the number 1 benefit. You can take it anywhere and its great now how many buildings and even open areas are WIFI so you can get on the internet pretty much anywhere nowadays.

They are much better for certain professions is not all. Laptops can be more personalized to certain professions or general likes with different kinds of programs or features. Like mentioned before, you can work at one place with your laptop and then pack it up and take it to a meeting or something. Good features, great portability.

Much better screen resolution. Laptops have LCD screens so graphics are higher quality. They are chipping away at the desktop benefits as well with wireless mouse, keyboard and even bigger/dual screen capabilities.

USB ports sync the information from your desktop to your laptop so this is the universal way of being able to use any computer since it is all USB based. You will need programs to sync but these are standard or can be bought. Some PDAs have direct cradles to sync and other just use the USB cord. Some now are even wireless.

It obviously varies between model and brand but generally you can upgrade any memory and upgrade to a better battery pack.

You can upgrade your drives to be CD burners, DVD burners, DVD players, etc. but only if all components match so heavily research your type or bring it into a computer shop for consultation before committing.

Hard Disk Drives can be updated or fixed easily with laptops. Generally this is when there is a problem and you loose all of your data but at least its an easy fix.

Mac's have much better features for graphic work. Adobe programs are all Mac based?hey have windows adaptable features now but the Mac original versions are much much better. Mac's are better customed to what you might like as well. Whether it be music, movies, editing, graphics, etc. There is a better qualified Mac computer for those components

If you are more comfortable with an everyday used computer then I would get a Windows based. Same features as computers you have grown up with but just more advanced. Transitioning from a Windows to a Mac can be tricky for some. It's all up to your computer know how and desired style.

Basic breakdown?Windows based is cheaper and easier to use (minus Vista if you don't know how to properly use it, if you do then its great) - Mac's have more tech features and are more stylish (meaning more up to date functionality and design) plus service is really good since they have stores everywhere.
