How do I know who to invite and not to invite to a party?

Well it's your party so invite whoever you want. Even if it's people you know but not very well because it's a 50/50 as to if they will really actually come but you are the nice person that sent an invitation and it makes people feel good to know that they are included even if they are not as familiar as most.

For a wedding it is customary to have +guest on your invitation. That way the work is up to them to decide if they want to bring someone or not so invite who you know and the +1's will fill in the blanks of who you were not sure about.

For a company party keep the same code. Add a +1 or and spouse. Invitations must be given to significant others at company parties because if some are invted on a personal level and someone's wife or husband is forget then it can really put a damper on a relationship. Same rule goes for engagement parties, housewarming parties, religious parties, even generic parties

Besides a traditional letter, what are some fun new ways to give out party invitations?

A friend of mine was getting married on a beach so she sent out message in a bottle invitations where the invite was wrapped in a small plastic bottle filled with sand and sea shells. I think it was only 2 stamps per bottle as well so it was a cheap creative way to send an invite. Check with your local post office for boundaries for such invitations because I think she needed to clear the sand that was in the bottle with the post office before mailing so they wouldn't think it was an illegal substance.

Even Evites are making waves as creative forms of invitations since you can decorate an online invitation in many different fun and cool ways. Sometimes it's good to even do both a snail mail and in evite invitation because then people can RSVP quicker/easier and both are forms of reminders for the party.

I like invitations like the bottle idea mentioned earlier. Pick on object that goes with your theme and mail it out like that. All parties have some sort of a theme even if it's not a planned theme party. Even a gathering of friends can have a hidden theme like where you are from or how you know each other which you can match up with your invitation. I tend to be more excited about parties that people seem more creative and excited to through. It doesn't have to be expensive either. The simplest things can be used to spruce up a party.

How long should I plan ahead if I want my party invitations professionally made?
-

I would order my invitations at least 3 months in advance and then mail them out a month before the party. Dependent on how extravagant your invitations/party will be; 3 months is still a fair time to plan ahead for invitations. Add more time if this is a bigger even just to be sure. Better early and safe then late and miss out on a chunk of people being about to schedule their attendance.

If you want engravingsor raised text or graphics on your invitations then I would order 4-5 months before your party because these sort of things take more time to create. If it is just a simple card then 3 months is good. If you are also choosing a non-traditional invitation like an actual personalized physical object to notify an event, then I would definitely plan at least 4-5 months in advance as well.

Mail to out of town guest a couple weeks early. I would say for out of towners mail 6 weeks before and for local participants at least 4 weeks before. The earlier the better to so they have time to RSVP back to you within good time but at the same time not too early because then people tend to push it aside since it's so far out. Reminder invitations are not a bad idea either for those that have not RSVPed around 2-3 weeks before the party. These don't need to be ordered really; just mock something on your computer.

Take a day trip to Cozumel. You can board the daily ferry shuttle over there to experience the great island itself.
