Any hints for hiding speaker wires for my home theater system?

They sell wireless units now for your back speakers. Only for the 2 far working units though. The front and center speakers are still wire. It's great though because they can hide anywhere since they are on signal. Some people think and believe that you may lose a little sound quality but its all based on opinion and your sound preference.

If you have drywall then this is easy to do?just drill a hole in the wall and then feed it through to your hook ups. Same can be done obviously for drop down ceilings. In our basement I just fed the wires through the ceiling and then drilled a hole in the dryway for the wires to come out close by the receiver.

If your carpet allows you can pull it back and stuff the wires. I did that at our first place but now we live on hardwood floors so I found a great alternitive. I went to our local Ace hardware and found these wire covers that have paste on the back so they can go anywhere on the walls. Bought enough to cover our surfaces and then painted the covers to match our wall paint. At first glance you can't even see them but they are there. It is a great and inexpensive (maybe spent $20 on the covers thats it) way to hire wires wherever you place your speakers.

If you are just wanting a general surround sound theater system then I would suggest checking out your local electronic store and seeing what they have on sale or special. I bought a 5 speaker, 1 subwoofer with a 5 disc DVD receiver/FM-AM Radio/Usb port for mp3 players/satelitte radio compatable system for $250 on sale. Its great to get the all in ones on special if you are just wanting a general upgrade from boring TV sound. I love mine! Creeps me out even sometimes with certain sounds and voices coming from all over the room.

Harmon Kardon, Onkyo, Yamaha and Denon produce great receivers. I would test out those and then get speakers that compliment. Pick your receiver first and then spread out. Higher end receivers and speakers can run you into spending in the high hundreds or low thousands of dollars but that change your opinion on sound. You can catch great deals if you are patient and buy overtime also. I would start small with an all in one and then slowly buy bigger as you see a deal.

I have a 5 speaker Infinity system and I LOVE it! Polk Audio and JBL make great speakers as well. Bose is a very popular brand but I think they are extremely overrated and have heard that I am not the only one who agrees.

Can you hook up your home theater system to your digital cable?

A couple years ago it was only a couple receivers that allowed you to do so. I would go to Best Buy or Circuit City and ask a professional what units work and what don't.

If you are tricky you can get away with it on a lot of receivers. Mine was not suppose to but there was a VCR function on my receiver that I wasn't planning on using so I hooked up the audio and video wires from my receiver to my digital box as an "acting VCR". It works just great and really adds to the effect of shows.

Case in point?it will still not sound as good as a DVD would because DVD's are 5.1 and cable is just 2.0. Although still very enjoyable to watch your favorite shows in surround sound. If you have any extra audio input on your receiver and an audio output on your cable box then your good.
