What do I need to provide the highest level of greatness with my Plasma TV?
-
MPgreen
A location big enough to place the TV on the wall or place it on a stand. Something within good viewing range. Too close or too far away will ruin the effect.

Input sources: Blu-ray Disc,HD-DVD, and/or DVD player (Upscaling DVD player desirable), VCR, video game console, satellite or cable box. In addition, some Plasma televisions will accept an input from your PC. A sound system is also best with a Plasma TV. Some Plasma TVs have an internal sound system, it is best to connect it to a home theater receiver for optimum home theater enjoyment.

A surge protector (which is good advice for any component in your system) to protect your TV from most electrical events. You also need connection cables for all the components that you wish to hook up to your Plasma TV.

Are all Plasma TV's HD?

Although most newer Plasma Televisions are HDTVs, many older Plasma sets are not.

In order for a TV to be classified as an HDTV, or HDTV-ready, the television must be able to display at least 1280x720 pixels. Some of those "budget" Plasma televisions priced at $1,000 or less, that are "selling like hotcakes" only display 852x480 or 1024x768 pixels. The images on these sets look great, especially for DVDs and standard digital cable, but it is not true HDTV.

Although if you have a typical HDTV input format of 1080i needs a native display of 1920x1080 pixels for a one-to-one point display of the HDTV image. So HD capability is not limited to 1280x720. Capability is from that range and higher to insure the purest quality of HD.

How long do Plasma TV's last?
-
Dbrown
It depends on the half life hour rating of your TV. Some old models are just 30,000 hours but some newer are 60,000 hours. This means that you will slowly lose 50% of your brightness during that time.

Panasonic just announced a 100,000 hour TV. This means that you can watch 6 hours of tv a day for 40 years before it dies out. Obviously that time is tabulated depending if you watch more or less than 6 hours.

Keep in mind that a standard television loses about 30% of its brightness after about 20,000 hours. Since this process is very gradual, the consumer isn't aware of this effect, except for the need to periodically adjust the brightness and contrast controls to compensate. Although the performance of individual Plasma televisions can vary, overall, as a product class, a Plasma television can deliver many years of acceptable viewing.

Need Hartmann Outdated Tweed Wood Box Luggage, it was discontinued by Hartmann a year+ ago. They manufactured for about 15 years. I am looking for the 29 or 32 inch size. It is not the soft Tweed that is presently available. The one I am looking for did not have wheels and was wood frame/shell. Leather handle and straps. Combination lock.
