Whats the deal with iPod batteries? I haven't heard good things.
-

When fully charged they can last 8-12 hours but they do tend to wear. Some die out really quickly but if you are still under warranty you can take it to an Apple store for a no fuss replacement. You'll lose your songs but just resync from Itunes. My shuffle went erie so I took it to the Genius Bar and they gave me a new one right out the box with nothing more than my signature to sign the other shuffle as broken.

Batteries are probably the biggest problem with iPod's aside from their problems freezing up but you can replace these batteries without buying a new iPod.

To make sure they run longer, keep them at a decent temperature. I have my iPod hooked up with my car so at night I would just leave it in there rather is be scorching hot or freezing cold and it really took a toll on my battery and iPod itself. So be sure to take it back home with you where ever you go so it can stay at a decent temp. It's a good idea to not charge it until its almost completely dead too. It's the "don't feed a stuffed pig" mentality that will shorten the life of your battery if you recharge it all the time.

Where all can I play my iPod?
-
hargriffith
They come with earbuds so you can play them anywhere you take it in the portable music player sense. Or you can play the music on your computer. Basically anywhere that has a USB port should let you play it.

USB port or regular auxilary port although you won't be able to pick your music? It just plays it in order. My home stereo has a USB port so I can plug it right into my surround sound which is nice. If your car stereo comes with an auxilary input then you can play it there as well... some new decks have them on the front but its the same deal that you cant choose what you play. I bought a cord for $100 that is basically a USB for my car stereo and it lets me run my iPod through my CD changer.

Are mp3's the only files I can listen to on a iPod or other portable music player?
-
Ballerz
To save yourself time and memory then yes. Mp3's are the smallest format of music file and tend to be more reliable when syncing and playing muic.
-
Cparker
True, I don't have an MP3 convertor but mix some songs for fun and can only transfer them as a WAV file which is about quadruple the memory capacity.
-

Some mp3's still will not play right on portable music players because there is something wrong with the file but that? the only reason. Mp3's are the suggested format to use?hence why they are called Mp3 players.

They come in all shapes and sizes. Smallest is the shuffle and if can have as low as 512 MB and the biggest is the iPod Classic (6th Gen) which comes with 160 GB. The sizes (depending on what kind of iPod you want) range from 512 MB, 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 5GB, 6GB, 8GB, 10GB, 15GB, 16GB, 20GB, 30GB, 32GB, 40GB, 60GB, 80GB, 120GB & 160GB. Not all iPod's come in all sizes so pick how much you want and then pick your pod.

What's the difference between an iPod and all the other mp3 players out there?
-
RAEann
A lot of the difference and reasons why iPod is more domminant in the mp3 world is the way they have marketed it and a already established base of Mac fans. Ipods do generally have more memory in a smaller frame so that? a plus to them. Also they have the iTunes program so thats a big positive note for mp3 buyers because it makes getting the music and loading everything simpler.

What sucks though is you cant download and play any iTunes music on any other mp3 player so it's hard to tell what songs will work and what won't. I guess that? a plus for iPod since it gives them exclusive rights. Their downside is that iPods are more expensive. You can get any other mp3 player for like half the price.

Mp3 players have FM radio and voice recorders the iPod does not. You can put scan disks in some other mp3 players also to have additional memory and portability to music/files. Some mp3 players have a better and more interactive screen as well. It really just depends on your style.
